Hypertension

Blood pressure is the pressure that blood applies on inner walls of arteries, the tubes that the blood is transferred from the heart to all body tissue. Blood pressure can’t be stable for 24 hours, but depends on individual’s activity. Blood pressure raises in many people causing dangers for health. Individuals that have their blood pressure many years risen, we say that they suffer from hypertension. 15-25% of people in western world suffers from the disease. It’s divided in two categories: primary and secondary hypertension. In primary, the causes are unknown and 95% of cases belong here. Possible cause is considered the poor adjustment of the sympathetic system, that has as a result the increase of peripheral resistances. Secondary hypertension, is caused by endocrine and kidney anomalies. In advanced stage, both kind of hypertension have very serious for human health complications and also, the disease is considered primary factor of coronary disease. Some of the factors that increase blood pressure are genes, sex, age, race, nutrition, exercise, alcohol, smoking and stress. Natural rates are between 11-13/70-90 mmHg.

Hypertension treatment

Individuals with hypertension are considered high risk for cardiovascular disease and they should receive medication for blood pressure control. Also, they should exercise with doctor’s confirmation and always check their blood pressure before exercising.

Very important role for treating hypertension has the nutrition control (salt and calories limitation), physical exercise and medication. The kind of medication depends on the gravity. On the contrary, nutrition and exercise are very important during all stages of the disease. Great number of studies has shown that regular aerobic exercise reduced systolic and diastolic blood pressure of individuals. This fact leaded to stop medication and many scientists believe that low intensity exercise (60% VO2max) is the best option for people with hypertension.
